Can You Make a Path for the Dinosaurs to Escape the Lava?

Get ready for a fiery STEM challenge that sparks imagination, critical thinking, and collaborative play! This hands-on tuff tray setup invites children to build bridges, balance beams, and dino-sized escape routes using loose parts and natural materials — all while navigating a lava landscape.

STEM Exploration: Children engage in early engineering as they design and test different structures using blocks to help their dinosaurs cross the lava safely. Fine Motor Development: Grasping, stacking, balancing and placing dinosaurs with precision supports hand strength and dexterity. Imaginative Play: A fiery volcano, colourful dinosaurs, forest landscapes and lava rivers transform this activity into a prehistoric adventure that encourages storytelling and dramatic play.
Problem Solving: Children work together to build sturdy pathways and rethink designs when their dino friends fall into danger.
This activity was supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library Services and Technology Grant, and the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.
